Paul has been practicing law for nearly 20 years in the firm’s practice areas of Family Law, Criminal Law and Professional Misconduct.
During that entire period Paul has been a Courtroom advocate and this special skill is especially suited to the firm’s areas of legal practice.
After completing a law degree, Paul lectured and tutored at University in law subjects for a year while completing a Graduate Diploma in Bar Practice. Paul then gained admission as a Barrister of the Supreme Courts of Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT. In that year Paul also received a student body-nominated award as one of the 50 best lectures at QUT.
Paul divides his practice primarily between Family/De Facto Law and Criminal Law The latter includes Traffic Law,Domestic Violence Orders and Professional Misconduct.
Paul is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, and is a qualified Independent Children’s Lawyer.
Paul has practiced widely and for his entire career in associated and specialised areas within the Criminal Law and Quasi-Criminal Law jurisdictions including:
- Domestic Violence
- Traffic Law
- Professional Misconduct matters in QCAT
- Crime and Misconduct Commission hearings
- Australian Crime Commission hearings
- Australian Securities and Investment Commission hearings
In 2001 Paul undertook the Queensland University/Queensland Law Society Legal Practice Management Course and graduated with Distinction. Workplace environment and work/life balance are Paul’s collateral areas of professional interest.
After practicing as a Solicitor, Associate, Senior Associate and Partner, Paul commenced the firm P J Byrne & Associates – now BYRNE LEGAL GROUP, in 2004.
